Getting to Know Ken Doyle Shuler
Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Ken Doyle Shuler grew up in a family of musicians, in turn developing his love for music from a young age. Ken’s father was a blues guitarist who taught him how to play the guitar starting at the age of five years old.
“It took me a while to get a hang of, but eventually, I did enjoy learning and playing the guitar.” Ken said.
He shared that making music is therapeutic for him personally. Passionate about his craft and having deep appreciation for meaningful song lyrics, Ken shared his creative process when it comes to writing his songs.
“I focus on my emotions and try to describe what I’m feeling the best I can. Then I’ll try to frame it from a more poetic perspective so others who listen to my songs would be able to resonate with the lyrics, find beauty in it.” Ken shares.
Ken Doyle Shuler’s View on Music
Ken Doyle Shuler would describe his music as a unique blend of melodies and riffs that set him apart from other musicians. The deep meaning in his lyrics are meant to tell others of his life story and his personal experiences.
“I want people to know what I’ve been through, maybe they’ll be able to relate to my experiences too and find comfort in the idea that others have lived through the same things.” Ken said.
Through life experiences, through the hills and valleys in both his good as well as bad days, Ken Doyle Shuler wants others to know that life is not a straight line. Ken shares with us how he feels music can be a form of healing for others too.
“The entire thing is an adventure. There are so many artists out there that I had to think about what sets me apart from the rest.” Ken said.
When asked about his journey when it came to pursuing a career in music, Ken Doyle Shuler shared how the process was like “finding a needle in a haystack”.
“Finding your sound is what most of your music career is like at the beginning. You try a lot of things to see which sticks best. It’s like trying to find yourself but in a different perspective than how you would do self-discovery in general.” Ken shared.
